Passenger Killed as Car Plunges Off Flyover in Bengaluru After Hitting Biker
Bengaluru: In a tragic incident early Tuesday, a passenger in a speeding sedan lost his life after the vehicle collided with a motorcyclist and plunged off a flyover near Yeshwanthpur Circle in Northwest Bengaluru.
The Volkswagen sedan was carrying four occupants: Shankar Ram (29), Mithun (29), Shabareesh (29), and Anushree (23). According to the Yeshwanthpur traffic police, all four were friends employed in the IT sector. Mithun and Shabareesh had driven from Coimbatore to visit their friends residing in Malleswaram, an officer stated.
The accident occurred around 3:45 AM at a particularly hazardous near-90° turn on the flyover leading towards Tumakuru. Police reported that the car struck the median, veered into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with a motorcyclist named Manjunath (38) before breaking through the crash barrier and falling onto the road below.
The front of the sedan was completely crushed upon impact. All four passengers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Manipal Hospitals, Yeshwanthpur.
Shabareesh succumbed to his injuries a few hours later, while the others remain hospitalized and under treatment. Manjunath, the motorcyclist, suffered only minor injuries.
“We suspect the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol, and a blood sample will be collected for testing,” said an officer from the Yeshwanthpur traffic police station.
